Nadene Murphy and CSM William Kermode-August 1998

Nadene was kind enough to visit Fort Sill as our Guest Speaker for a SGT Audie Murphy Club Induction Ceremony. The installation Senior NCO, Command Sergeant Major William J. Kermode is presenting her with a "li'l memento" of her visit.

Audie L. Murphy Veteran's Hospital, San Antonio, Texas

In the middle of a beautifully landscaped walkway leading up to the front doors, is this 8 foot tall statue of Audie. It represents what he always did...led the way.

Painting owned by Feller Goff

Feller and his wife Jocelyn drove Nadene to Fort Sill. He also brought along this wonderful painting that was given to him years ago. He was gracious enough to allow me to display it during the Induction Ceremony. The inductees had their photo taken with Nadene and the painting.

(For you trivia buffs, you probably recognize this shot from "To Hell and Back". Some of you may even know the scene recreated one of Audie's actions that earned him a medal. The question is: "Which medal was it?"

The old application to join the club

Formerly created and run by Stan Smith, this club grew to an international organization in a short time. A fine newsletter written by Stan, edited by our favorite author, Sue Gossett, featured contributing stories from fans. This was a quality product, printed on good paper, mailed in a quality envelope. Each issue contained a wealth of info and facts. Each issue was and is a treasure.

For personal reasons, the club was discontinued by Stan a couple of years ago. There is hope that the club and newsletter will return in the future ONLY if the same quality can be assured.

(For the sake of privacy, I've blocked out Stan's address and phone numbers on the application.)

Lobby card

One of the many from "To Hell and Back". This one sure does make him look even younger than he was.

2 AUDIES

(LEFT) A rare trading card depicting his Medal of Honor stand atop the burning M10 Tank Destroyer. (RIGHT) As a Cowboy, though he's down, he's not out! Audie was one of the few cowboy stars that had a real fastdraw and could shoot accurately.

A STILL FROM "TO HELL AND BACK"

The Navy tells him they need something to start with when they claim they can build men...so they turned him down.
